Governors
Our Governors work
closely with the school to ensure all of our children receive
the high quality education, which is matched to their
personalised needs. Governors are very involved in the life
of the school and regularly join us for out of school
visits, walks in the forest and for lessons. They help at
the summer fair, Christmas fete and other charity events
throughout the year, including serving Christmas lunch to
all the children.

Governors have two main roles: to set strategy
and to monitor the schools’ performance. To this end, their
functions include:
- To determine the
strategic direction of the school;
- To approve the
School Development and Improvement Plan;
- To decide policy
on a host of matters including discipline, equal
opportunities, sex education, teacher performance,
management and pay;
- Agree targets for
such matters as educational achievements, attendance
levels;
- Decide how the
school’s income is to be spent;
- Appoint the
headteacher and assist in the appointment of other
senior staff;
- Oversee the
provision of the curriculum;
- Monitor the
performance of the school – this includes the progress
of pupils generally, financial performance, premises and
condition and health & safety matters.
The Governors meet as
a full governing body six times a year to fulfil these
functions. There are also a number of sub-committees which
deal more closely with particular issues, such as Finance &
Premises, Curriculum and Staffing.
Would you like to
be a Governor at St Katharine’s?
All Governors are
volunteers and do not receive any payment for their work.
They do play a vital role in the work of the school.
Being a Governor is
demanding and challenging but very rewarding.
If you are interested
in becoming a Governor please do not hesitate to contact
Peter Holland through the School address. There are
currently no vacancies but please feel free to register your
interest.
